SESH & THE POSE

Sesh is the scribe.  When you are seated in Sesh, you tune into ancient teachings, knowledge, and wisdom.   This tuning is accessing your Ancestors, your Higher Self, and your Ancient & Primordial Mind.  Sitting in this pose encourages and supports patience, clarity, and concentration as you breathe deeply in “stillness”.

The Sesh pose improves flexibility and circulation in the toes, ankles, Achilles tendon, knees, pelvis, and spinal column.  

The variations are used as meditation postures in many traditions and normal ways of sitting in cultures all over the world.  They stimulate an increased flow of energy through meridian pathways which are activated by the reflexology and acupuncture points on the feet.

MERIDIANS IN THE FOOT

Traditional Chinese Medicine names 12 main meridian pathways with 6 beginning or ending in the hands and 6 beginning or ending in the feet. 

 

The Liver Meridian begins at the big toe flowing up the leg, into the lower abdomen, and entering the liver and gallbladder. 

The Gallbladder Meridian ends in the fourth toe and also branches to the big toe joining the liver meridian. 

The Kidney Meridian begins at the outside of the little toe flowing up to the kidneys and branching out. 

The Urinary Bladder Meridian ends in the little toe where the kidney meridian begins.

The Spleen Meridian starts at the inside of the big toe flowing up to the spleen, connecting with the stomach, and then branching out joining the heart meridian.

The Stomach Meridian ends at the foot splitting off to the inner side of the big toe joining the spleen meridian, and the third toe.

 

The Mudras

Mudra in Sanskrit means “gesture, seal, mark, or pose”.

Because of the incredible flow of energy in the hands, when they are put into hasta mudras “hand gestures” there is a directional channel created which induces and/or amplifies an inner focus.  In that state, there is an increase of flow in particular areas and the opportunity to develop and strengthen one’s awareness of the observer’s perception.

 

GYAN MUDRA

Air & Lungs

 

Gyana in Sanskrit translates as “pure knowledge” so this mudra is known as the mudra of knowledge.  It has been acknowledged as a seal of comprehension inspiring knowledge and understanding.  Practicing this mudra enables one to unlock the abilities necessary to tune into their own inner wisdom and therefore always find truth.

It essentially increases the Vayu element (air element) and promotes the optimal flow of prana, so by default, balance.  You’ll see people jokingly speak of maintaining positivity, finding peace, or protecting their chi while closing their eyes, putting their hands into this mudra, and maybe even moving their hands or arms a certain way with their hands in this mudra.  Why has it become so common?  Mainly because that is what they’ve seen “yogis” doing in multiple images circulated all over, but subconsciously because this mudra does indeed support the functions of the brain by energizing the neurons, improving the functioning of the endocrine glands, and relieving stress, depression, anxiety, and excessive anger.

 This mudra emphasizes the air element associated with the index finger and the fire element associated with the thumb.  Both are connected to the lung meridian which runs down the arm into the outer tip of the thumb and a smaller branch out to the tip of the index finger.

 

ANJALI MUDRA

Unification & Circulation 

Anjali in Sanskrit is translated as “Divine Offering”.  It is also known as Namaskara Mudra “Heart Seal”.  This heart seal of divine offering supports the whole coming into alignment.  The mudra is understood as saluting, respecting, offering, or even submitting.  Anjali Mudra is seeing the Divine in all and appreciating every aspect of all you perceive as you return to your heart.  It is a unifying and circulating mudra connecting the two hemispheres of the brain, the masculine and feminine energies, enabling optimized coordination throughout multiple levels of your being.
